When and why did Miya join Alongside You?
I joined Alongside You in May 2024. I have been wanting to join the staff here since I graduated post-secondary with my Bachelor’s in Psychology, and the opportunity came at the perfect time. I really value the vision that Andrew and Meg bring to our community and the resources they provide for a community that needs it. Living in South Delta my whole life, I know how much this clinic and the work they do is needed and appreciated. I wanted to be a part of something that has helped so many people and continues to find new ways to do so, and this is the perfect place to do that.
What would Miya be doing if she did not pursue the career path she has right now?
If I didn’t pursue psychology, I likely would have become a teacher. I’ve wanted to work in schools since I was little because I love academic environments and believe in life-long learning. If I wasn’t in a school, I also likely would’ve become a librarian, because I’ve loved books my whole life.
How does Miya relax when she is outside of work?
Outside of work, I love reading and always have. My favourite author is Fredrick Backman (his books will change your life) and my favourite series is the Thursday Murder Club. I also love watching TV, with some of my favourite shows including The Office, Abbott Elementary, This Is Us, and Game of Thrones. I’ve recently gotten into cross stitching, and I have a 3-year-old Havanese puppy named Koji who I’m obsessed with (he’s really a grumpy old man inside).
What does Miya consider the most important value?
I believe the most important value is trust. So much of human connection is built on it, and it can be one of the worst feelings when that is broken in any kind of relationship. I believe it’s one of the first things any relationship should have to build a solid foundation for the rest of their time together.
