Adult DBT Group
Adult Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Skills Group
What is Group Therapy?
Adult Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Skills Group therapy is an opportunity to take the skills and knowledge one can learn in individual therapy and at the same time benefit from being in a group of peers that know where you’re coming from. Some people participate only in groups, and some combine group work with individual counselling. Group therapy can also be a good option for many who struggle with the costs of individual therapy, as group therapy can be provided at much more affordable rates as the costs are shared amongst the group.
What groups does Alongside You run?
Currently we are running ongoing Adult Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Groups at our office in Ladner. DBT has been shown to be effective for many struggles people face, but in particular, is highly effective for people struggling with the following:
- Borderline Personality Disorder
- Chaotic relationships
- Emotional storms
- Drug or Alcohol misuse
- Anger management difficulties
Our DBT program is open to anyone struggling with the above issues. Research has shown DBT to be particularly effective for anyone struggling with emotional difficulties, regardless of official diagnosis. Originally developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan, DBT has been successfully used to help patients move from being stuck in unregulated mood and thoughts forward into a life worth living. Unlike some other programs, patients do nothave to have an official diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder to be able to participate.
Our group sessions are split into two parts – the first half is a check-in and review of the week, the second half is used for teaching new DBT skills to group members.
