When and why did Anna join Alongside You?
In the Fall of 2017 I joined the Alongside You team as an administrative assistant. I now work as the Engagement and Development Coordinator, and assist in running the clinic.
I knew I wanted to join up with Alongside You when I learned about their sliding scale fees and Step Forward Program. I love that this is a local family-run company that emphasizes access and quality care for everyone, regardless of their financial situation. I knew this would also be a great learning experience for me as I navigate my own way to becoming a counsellor.
What is Anna’s day-to-day role at Alongside You?
I often work behind the scenes to help keep the clinic operating, so I do a little bit of everything! My favourite part of the day is usually supporting our staff as they take such good care of others. I also love saying hi to our clients and getting to know new ones – that and giving our honourary office dog Dixie a good belly rub whenever she’s around.
What skills does Anna need for her role at Alongside You?
I do lots of bits and pieces behind the scenes, but most of my role falls under team management, developing operations and infrastructure, billing and bookkeeping, design and social media.
What does Anna love the most about Alongside You?
I don’t think I could have found a more caring, affirming, generous, and fun team of people to work with if I tried. This is a special place, and I’m very grateful to be along for the ride. The team here has a real heart for this community, and for each other.
What would Anna be doing if she did not pursue the career path she has right now?
In another life, I think I would enjoy being a National Geographic photojournalist. Getting paid to travel the world and photograph seems pretty dreamy to me.
How does Anna relax when she is outside of work?
I am happiest in the forest, by the ocean, or on a mountain with my camera in hand. (Throw a golden retriever in there and that would be just about perfect.) But honestly, when my husband and I are relaxing outside of work it often involves a good show, our couch, and a big bag of chips. I’m pretty happy with that too!
What does Anna consider to be the most important value?
Connection! It’s what we are built for.
What kind of organizations/networks/communities does Anna connect/associate with?
I’ve been volunteering with Anvil Island summer camps for forever now and consider it my second home. Where else would you find a 150+ person family, giant food fights, mystery food challenges and Santa arriving at camp via helicopter?
