How did Juliana begin the journey?

Juliana’s friend and colleague Andrew sent her a message and said, “So when are you going to leave your other job and come and work for me?” And so how could she resist? Juliana joined in November of 2015.

Since at Alongside You she does everything from couples or individual adult therapy to Play Therapy with small children, some days you will find her on the floor, using the rice tray or the Mr. Potato Heads with her smaller clients, on another day she might be working with a teenage client to help them track and manage their anxiety, and on yet another day she might be using OEI, a treatment that releases trauma by massaging glitches from the eyes, to treat an adult client suffering from PTSD. Juliana’s days tend to vary quite a bit!

How can Juliana help YOU?

Juliana specializes in working with a range of issues including depression, postpartum depression, anxiety, relationship/marital issues, adolescent issues, abuse, trauma, anger, grief and loss. In her work with individuals, couples, families, adolescents and children, Juliana comes alongside her clients from a place of gentleness and empathy, respecting each person’s journey and the resiliencies which have allowed them to cope with past and present struggles, while providing a safe space for healing and change to take place. Using a multi-modal approach, Juliana works holistically, systemically and experientially, addressing all aspects of well-being in her therapy: physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual and relational.

What is Juliana like outside of work?

Juliana loves games – she and her family love to kick back with board games and card games and popcorn and hot chocolate and laugh and break out into spontaneous dance parties. When she really wants to relax at the end of the day though, fleece pyjamas, a good movie, a glass of red wine and a little chocolate go a long way.

If she did not pursue the career path of being a counsellor, Juliana would probably be teaching history and theology at a college or university, as that was her career path before she switched to become a counsellor. She just loves teaching. She would still also have her other full-time job; being a mom to her two wonderful kids.
