From an early age, I recognized a desire in myself to help others, although it took me a while to figure out how exactly I wanted this desire to correlate into a career. I have my own personal family experiences with mental health and addiction, as well as a few less than positive personal experiences in counselling as a teenager, so this helps motivate me to be that positive counselling experience for others.
I am passionate and excited to continue my learning and have a natural knack for using humour with clients and finding a way to connect with their experiences. I enjoy working with individuals from a more cognitively inclined lens using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), but also utilize Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), aspects of Gestalt, and other theoretical orientations depending on the presenting concern. I believe that as a counsellor it is my responsibility to meet clients where they are at and adjust my way of working to reflect this.
How did Chantelle begin the journey?
Chantelle always wanted to go into psychology and counselling but it took a while for her to figure out that it was what she truly wanted to pursue. She has always connected well with people and been a listening ear for friends and family and felt drawn to the field to help!
How can Chantelle help you?
Chantelle has a natural knack for using humour with clients and finding a way to connect quickly with their experiences. She has a great background in working with people with different abilities, including developmental disabilities and has worked with organizations like Special Olympics and other support agencies. She enjoys working with the clients at Alongside You and finding her own unique way of connecting and helping others along their journey.
What is Chantelle like outside of work?
Chantelle is a sports fiend – she played four competitive sports while in school. She can be a bit competitive so you’ll probably find her playing team sports but when she takes some time off to relax, you’ll find her out in nature and the outdoors, or hanging out with the animals she loves!
