My journey to become a clinical counsellor began while I was still in high school where I was given the opportunity to take an elective psychology course. After learning the fundamentals about how individuals behave, think and feel, I wanted to understand more about the human experience in a way that could improve overall functioning and establish inner peace. I completed my undergraduate degree in psychology and family studies while working with several non-profit organizations to
develop and enhance allied health services for children, youth, adults and families in South Delta. Shortly after this, I completed my Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology where I became deeply attuned the challenges that cause us to remain stuck in our distress.
It is my desire to help you live as freely as possible. In our work together I want to help you reclaim your life’s purpose, lessen your burden and walk you through your healing. I feel strongly about providing a safe and non-judgmental space where you feel empowered and understood. My approach to helping clients is grounded in collaboration and compassion. I believe the work we do is not only rooted in the therapeutic alliance we create but in our ability to award mutual trust and honesty to one another.
I deeply admire the dedication, compassion and accessibility that Alongside You awards to clients. As a long-term resident of South Delta, it has always been a goal of mine to be able to offer services and give back to the community in which I was raised.
What would you be doing if you did not pursue the career path you have right now?
If I did not become a therapist I would have pursued some form of writing or journalism. I believe language gives us the potential to transform ourselves by communicating our experiences and discover shared meaning through our narratives,
How do you relax when you are outside of work?
I love spending time in nature with my husband and dog. We are always looking for new places to explore in our own community. I also enjoy curling up with a big bowl of popcorn and a riveting horror novel or movie when I can’t make it outdoors.
What do you consider the most important value?
It’s difficult for me to select just one! However, balance, growth and vulnerability are a few core values that truly resonate with me. When we continue to strive for growth, practice balance in our work and personal lives, and are honest with ourselves and others about our experiences it leaves room for everything else to fall into place.
